The Ryan Patrick Kishbaugh Center for Writing and Creative Learning is named in honor of Ryan Kishbaugh, a remarkable young man who graduated from the Academy in 2002, planned to attend Princeton University, and whose creed about living his own life was "to stand up and be heard."
Ryan died in 2003 due to complications from cancer; he lives on today in endless ways. The Writing Center was, in part, his personal dream and concept.
The primary focus of the Writing Center is to assist students with writing--all types of writing, all types of writing assignments, all stages of the writing process. Please stop by the Center for help, and/or check with Ellen Brooks in Room 23 for more information about what the Writing Center does and does not do.
The Writing Center is located in Room 23 in the Upper School.
Director: Ellen Olson Brooks
The Intern Program is the heart of the Writing Center. Writing Interns are juniors and seniors at the Academy who are exceptional writers, and exceptionally passionate about writing. They are trained to be professional writing tutors; their experience as writing interns also enhances their college applications.

"...and this will be a story of hope for others...this story will not end in me, but will carry on, above and beyond myself. I will refuse to let cancer get the best of me. I will not allow it. Now I go to write my story."
