Extracurricular Programs

Lower School:
Children may participate in extracurricular clubs and activities such as Math Club and Science Club, and After School Enrichment programs offer weekly instruction in Tae Kwon Do, Drama, Art, and Yoga.

Athletics
Interscholastic athletics at Fayetteville Academy are an integral part of the total instructional program. Students are encouraged to participate in the sports they find the most appealing and interesting to them. Middle School students may begin participating in the athletic program during the seventh grade with team placement based on age and skill level. Only team members in grades 8-12 are eligible for state-level playoffs under NCISAA guidelines. Team members in seventh grade may be permitted to travel with the team to state playoffs.

Book Club
This club is open to students in the middle and upper schools. Members will select books to read which will then be discussed at club meetings.

Bowling Club
Bowling Club (8-12) is a social club designed to give students a fun activity outside of school and a time to be together and make new friends. Members bowl at B&B Bowling Lanes twice a month.

Builders Club
The membership is open to any middle school student interested in volunteerism and community service. This club is coed and sponsored by the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club and The Fayetteville Academy Key Club.

Guitar Club
This club is organized for students in grades 7-12 interested in playing guitar. Members typically gather during lunch or after school at a mutually agreeable time.

Honor Council
A faculty committee will recommend a group of upper school students to serve on this body that is responsible for hearing Honor Code violation cases. The student body will elect from the recommended group, the individuals whom they feel will best fulfill this responsibility. The Honor Council consists of six student members: one freshman, one sophomore, two juniors, and two seniors. There are two faculty representatives in addition to the Honor Council advisor. The selection process occurs each year.

Key Club
The membership is open to any upper school student interested in volunteerism and community service. This club is coed and sponsored by the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club.

Latin Clubs

Club members organize activities that promote further understanding of Latin and cultures influenced the ancient Romans. The club also is involved in community service activities and participates in campus wide programs.

Math Team
Students interested in participating in math competitions are invited to join this team. Various competitions, on and off campus, will be considered including math tournaments and the American Mathematics Competition.

Mock Trial
Students who have an interest in the legal system may join the Mock Trial team sponsored by the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers. The team is given a legal scenario for which they must prepare a prosecution and defense. Local attorneys in addition to a faculty advisor assist the team members in readying for the competition which is normally held in January.

This club is organized for students in grades 6-12 interested in exploring different types of music and dancing. Members periodically meet during lunch or after school.

National Art Society/National Junior Art Society
The National Art Honor Society (10-12) and National Junior Art Society (7-9) emphasize outstanding artistic scholarship and service to the school and community. Members must also demonstrate strong moral character. By exemplifying these standards, members of the society promote an awareness and appreciation of art at school and in the community. Students need to have been enrolled in an art class at the Academy for one semester and have at least a B average in Art

National Junior Honor Society/National Honor Society
Membership in National Honor Society (NHS) or National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for both memberships is by the vote of a faculty council appointed by the headmaster. NHS is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. NJHS is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. To be eligible for consideration for NHS, a student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior for NHS and for NJHS, an eighth grader or freshman. A student must also have been in attendance at the Academy for the equivalent of one semester. The student must have a cumulative average of 90 or better (90 for NJHS) using semester grades for core discipline courses (English, math, science, social studies, foreign language, and any other course designated as Advanced Placement) beginning with the 9th grade to the present for NHS and 7th to the present for the NJHS. No student currently placed on social or honor probation is eligible for consideration for membership to the NJHS or NHS.


Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to maintain high academic standards and to uphold all policies of the student conduct code. A warning letter will be sent if a member fails to earn an overall semester average of 90 or better in the core courses. If a member fails to earn a 90 or better overall average for two consecutive semesters, the student will forfeit membership to the organization.


Senior members who do not earn an average of at least 90 for the first semester will receive a warning letter. Failure to earn an overall 90 average for the final progress report in the core courses will result in revoking membership to the NHS. However, the senior who has an overall 90 average and does earn an overall average in the core courses for the final progress report will be noted as a NHS graduate.

Performing and Visual Arts
Middle and upper school students expressing an interest in the performing or visual arts including instrumental, vocal, dramatic, dance, theatre, and art, may take lessons in several of these areas. Student art work is exhibited on campus and in the art gallery. Performances are given periodically throughout the year including plays and the Performing Arts Show at the end of the year.

Recycling Club
The club is organized to maximize the Fayetteville Academy’s recycling efforts.  Members are responsible for collecting plastic, paper, and metal cans on campus as well as share information that promotes recycling in general.  Membership is open to middle and upper school students.

Science Olympiad
This club is open to middle school students who enjoy participating in science-oriented activities. Members will organize teams to prepare for competition in the North Carolina Science Olympiad.

Spanish Club

Spanish Club is open for upper school students enrolled in Spanish classes. Club members organize activities that promote further understanding of the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. The club also is involved in community service activities and participates in campus-wide programs.

Spanish National Honor Society

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (SHH) is open for students in grades 10-12 who have taken a minimum of three years of High School Spanish with an average of A, and that have been in attendance at The Fayetteville Academy for at least one school year. Members of the SHH are committed to share their passion for the Spanish language and culture by speaking Spanish, organizing cultural activities that promote the understanding of Hispanic culture, and helping the Hispanic community. Members are also encouraged to write prose and poetry in Spanish as well as creating drawings or cartoons that can serve as a contribution to "?Albricias!" the national publication of the Spanish National Honor Society.

Student Ambassadors

Over the summer, the Admissions Office selects two students from each grade level in grades 7 through 12. Student Ambassadors serve for a one year term and assist the Admissions Office in preparing and implementing Open House activities for prospective families and serve as student guides when prospective students visit our campus.

Student Government Association (SGA) Grades 9-12 & Middle School Student Council (MSSC) Grades 6-8
These organizations function as vital links between students, faculty and administrators. They are active in all phases of campus life and give students experience in governmental procedures. Although these organizations are separate bodies, they sometimes work together on projects and goals. Meetings for both organizations are open to all interested students.

The Student Government Association (SGA) is made up of students in grades 9-12. Two representatives are selected from each grade level advisory, and it is their duty to attend meetings and relay suggestions and requests from all students to the SGA. The officers are elected in February for a one-year term. Ex-officio members are the presidents of all upper school classes and clubs.

The Middle School Student Council is designed for students in grades 6-8. The organization and format of the Council is modeled after the Upper School Student Government. Elections are held at the beginning of each school year.

There's Something More (TSM)
This club is open to any student who is interested in furthering their faith and sharing fellowship with other Christian students. Members usually meet before school in the mornings.
