donna mccollum climbing update #2
April 12, 2011
Base camp was moved a little higher than normal - Donna is at 18,000'. She is feeling a bit sluggish and moving slowly but you have to remember oxygen levels are much lower up there then where we are. She will be climbing Loboshe, a 20,000' mountain as a training climb.
Base camp is the coldest the sherpas remember in recent years. Overnight temperatures are reaching -15 degrees. A few sherpas reported a frigid -65 degrees at the summit. Many climbers have been sick and left behind. One was also helicoptered off the mountain.
Temperatures are so cold that Donna is having trouble with a small video camera she received from Reed-Lallier Chevrolet.
