college counseling holds four college planning nights
September 22, 2011
The college counseling office held four successful, grade-specific college planning nights throughout the month of September. These evening sessions, new additions to the college counseling programming calendar, aimed to educate students and their parents on what they should be doing now and throughout this school year to prepare for the college search and application processes.
Freshmen were encouraged to use progress reports and report cards as academic checkpoints and to be proactive in seeking extra help from teachers, if necessary. Sophomores discussed the role of the PSAT in preparing to take the SAT and/or the ACT in the junior year, and how to document school and community activity involvement. Juniors received the 2011-2012 College Planning Guide and were given advice about using long weekends and school breaks to tour college campuses. And seniors were introduced to the new electronic transcript request system. With all grade levels, Miss Snead discussed the responsibilities of the student, the parent, and the counselor in the college application process, and reminded students to dutifully listen to the morning announcements and check their email daily.
